Lee Smith is an attorney with more than 30 years of success in higher education administration and legal affairs. Smith is the Principal and Founder of TravelerSmith Consulting, specializing in “P3” Public Private Partnership business strategies in higher education.
A graduate of Harvard University and the University of Washington School of Law, Lee was the associate vice president for legal affairs at The University of Texas at Austin until 2017, where he dealt directly with a wide array of legal and operational issues impacting students, faculty and staff. Previously, he was an attorney with The University of Texas System Office of General Counsel; counsel to the Director of the Washington State Department of Wildlife; and, chief regional civil rights attorney for The United States Department of Health and Human Services.
Lee regularly speaks at conferences and interest group meetings on topics of regulatory compliance, information technology and security, campus safety and security, procurement and business contracting, distance education, P3, and student privacy issues in the higher education space.
